BOLLYWOOD MAKE UP

Laura demonstrated a Bollywood make up look for us - she explained that kohl is a massive focus in Bollywood and that the men wear as much make up as the women.

SKIN

  • Laura first prepped the skin using moisturiser to give a natural radiance. She then used a Mac primer and a Smashbox photofinish primer.

  • Foundation was then applied - in the past, the lighter you were the more beautiful however the bronzed look is now in fashion. Laura applied the foundation lighter in the center and warmer around the edges

  • Concealer was then applied after foundation. Concealer used around lip to give definition.

  • Highlighter used under the eye, patted onto the skin with a brush in a 'V' shape

  • Ben nye powder then used in shades Buff and Rose petal to highlighter under eyes. Press in under eyes with flat brush. It is a very matte product and therefore not much product is needed.

  • Contour colour - MAC Blunt. Discontinued in the UK but available in US. Applied with a contour brush for precise application/

EYES

  • Flesh coloured primer used on eyes - sets eye make up in place longer.

  • Angled brush used to place shadow into the crease of the eye - red undertone as the lips will be red. Defines the socket. Be careful with placement. Use light face powder to soften the edge.

  • Define eyes with liner - get a lot of product onto brush and wipe on hand. Ensures even product on brush and puts brush into original shape.

  • Put line from bottom lash in first and create a triangle shape to the middle of upper lid. Use little finger to steady hand when doing this. Lift lid a little to get close to lash line.

  • Press lid with liner (gel) and keep packing on product until happy with intensity

  • Fill brows using preferred product

  • Lashes applied if wanted

LIPS

  • Apply lip pencil using little finger as a guide - this is a really useful tip as I have always struggled with using lip liner

  • Russian Red lipstick applied to lips

PRACTICING BOLLYWOOD

As I do not do a lot of beauty make ups, this was a good practice. I found Laura's tips very helpful, particularly lip liner tip, as in the past I have struggled to create an even line when using lip liner and would never have thought to use my little finger as a guide. This worked really well and is something I will now do in the future.

When creating eyeliner flicks, I had not create them using the 'triangle' method before, so this was also very useful. I really struggle getting the symmetry right when applying liner however I know this is something which will come with practice

I feel the colour palette that I chose for Dixie's eyes and lips compliment each other as well as her complexion and hair, so I am pleased with that.
