Ve Neills created a reptilian make up on ctor Dennis Leary. The picture on the right shows the scales initially forming, they are very subtle with no colouration. The make up on the right shows more developed scales. I really like the make up on the right, I like how the pieces show the skiin through. I also like that it is not the whole face covered in scales and instead it is particular areas. This makes it seem as though it is an infectious disease - which reflects the story line.

This make up is by Bill Corso and is of one of the lizard cops in The Amazing Spider Man. I really like this design as it covers the whole face yet does not feel mask like and in fact appears to be very thin and looks as though it really is park of the actor. The scales are subtle. I think it is a really nice deisgn and beautifully applied. I also like how the scales continue onto the ear - a small detail yet it makes a difference to the overal make up.

Madame Vastra is an interesting example of reptile skin. I like the design of the top of the head however I feel the overall design of the face is too 'mesh' like, it is a symmetrical pattern yet actual scales are not symmetrical. However this does suit the style of the programme - Dr Who

BODY PAINTING
I really like how the scales have been painted as I think they look realistic - a great use of highlight and shade. I am interested by the hair in this picture, I am not sure if I like it or not but I think it is interesting how the artist has tried to tie the hair in with the make up. I think it is a little messy but I really like the hair concept. I would like to incorporate the hair in my make up.

OTHER REPTILE MAKE UP

Mike Spatola uses an interesting technique to create the ridges in his make up - his model has long hair so he braiding the hair and pinned it under the bald cap to create the ridges. I would not have thought of doing this, nor would I have thought he had done this by looking at the picture.
He used a coat of PAX paint pver the piece and bald cap only. The rest of the face was painted with alcohol activated colours for easier removal. He used an airbrush first to rough in the base colours, then added stripes, veins and shapes for texture. He used a stencil for many of the black spots and some were done by hand. It is really useful to read his process and the way that he applied the make up.
