Pathfinder Reshoot

During this unit, Dixie and I offered to help on the reshoot of BU Graduate film 'Pathfinder' which was a film heavy in prosthetics. The part of the film which needed reshooting involved an elf which required ear pieces to be applied to the top of the ear. I decided this film would be generally good experience but would be particularly helpful as I may be applying ear pieces for this project.

This ear mould was used in the film previously but was not the ear of the actor which was wearing the prosthetic. This later meant the piece didn't fit as nicely as it should have.

This cast has been a useful reference when sculpting my ears and trying to understand the ear anatomy, as it is not as easy to see the form 2 dimensionally.

We had some problems with the plaster ear core, as it is so fragile as it had already been broken previously and superglued back together which meant it was already weak.

This meant that it was almost impossible to get a good cast of the left ear as the plaster kept breaking off even once we had reapplied super glue. This has shown me that in future, if I was to mould ears, I would use resin rather than plaster as it is much stronger and would save time in the long run.

The right ear tip (from the good mould) worked well however the left ear was not as successful which was expected, however I used some sculpt gel to blend the edge. The gelatin was coloured with MAC NW15 and was a good colour match and did not require any further painting.

Assisting Alice Kenneth - Old Age Make up

Things learnt from morning:

- Use wig net within the cowl to strengthen it

- Prepaint pieces as I will only have 1 face piece - ensure that the colours used are the same

-using telesis would be best for a more complicated multi piece such as this make up. will stick to using prosaide.

- use anti shine over whole prosthetic to dull shine
