Formative Assessment

I found the formative assessment challenging as this was the first practice I had done on my model. I really struggled to get the colours right. I decided to use grease paints as these are thick and will best simulate the appearance and texture of oil paints.

I had not thought about the colours before hand which caused me to panic during my assessment and rush when choosing colours, resulting in me using incorrect colours. I had painted on the shade which I could see on my portrait however I learnt from the feedback of my assessment that this would not be necessary and that I should lighting to create these shadows.

During my formative, I made several mistakes which I hope not to repeat during my summative assessment. When applying the prosaide to one of my eyebags, I attempted to dry the piece with a hairdryer however put it on too high and blew the eyebag out of my hand. The edges had then folded onto each other and I was unable to use the eyebag. As I had not made more than 1 set of eyebags for my formative, i was only able to apply one eyebag. I will ensure that I have mutiple pieces for both the nose and eyebags for my summative.

When applying the gelatin nose piece, I forgot to put sealer inside which meant that the colours would be different on the piece in comparison to the actual skin. On one side, I blended the edge well on the left side however struggled with the edge on the right.

I am unsure as to whether I glued the piece down properly which made the edges even worse. I shall practice further with the gelatin nose piece to try and create a more blended edge.

I was happy with the application of the one eyebag I applied.

I could not apply my moustache as my model already has a moustache however he will be shaving it for my summative assessment.

The moustache is not fully dressed as the ends still need to be trimmed.

I had not finished dressing the eyebrow pieces therefore they were not applied either.

For my summative assessment, I plan to paint the hairs of my model instead of creating a beard as my model already has a beard.

OveralI I found the assessment difficult and I was disappointed with the result however after receiving feedback I am now aware of the changes that are necessary.
