EXAMPLES OF MAKE UPS

THE IRON LADY 

The make up for The Iron Lady was designed by Mark Coulier and the pieces were sculpted by Barrie Gower. Silicone pieces were used to create rounder cheeks as Streep's cheeks are very defined. An arced gelatine nose brow appliance was made as her actual nose is a lot thinner than Thatchers. 

Streep wanted to be able to still express herself as an actress while wearing the prosthetics. Coulier wanted to keep the prosthetics minimal by only taking elements of Thatcher. It was decided that Streep would not have thatchers hooded eyes.

Streep was also aged with an aged neck appliance. Streep was also aged in other ways, for example her ears were made to look older by having small earings in. 

Silicone is an ideal material to use for an ageing make up as it can be softened which is important for moveability as well as a realistic feel. Silicone is also more long wearing and 

 

LES MISERABLES

Make up designer Lisa Westcott transforms Hugh Jackman into his role of Jean Valjean using postiche, lenses, prosthetic teeth and flat pieces.

Westcott used lenses to make Jackmans eyes look sore as well as teeth slips to make his teeth appear rotten. Anne Hathaway had her teeth painted with enamel to look bloody.

There is also a lot of postiche within the film such as beards and moustaches.
