Here are a selection of my own portraits and tonal studies of aged skin and the effects that can be seen. I have found these studies helpful as I have spent a long time observing and exploring the various

TONAL

STUDIES

OF AGEING.

This is my portrait of a family friend aged 65. While drawing this portrait, I found myself taking the wrinkles into more consideration as it is relevant to my current project. I focused more on the placement of the wrinkles and also the differences between the wrinkles - that some were lines, some were grooves and some were hooded wrinkles.

Although this portrait is of a man, it is within the age range of 60-70s which we have been given to age ourselves in clay.

This portrait of my grandma is particuarly useful as it may indicate how I will age. I am aware however that this is 20-30 years older than the ageing that I will be creating it is still a useful guide.
