FINAL MAKE UP APPLICATION
I gave myself an application of 5 hours which I initially thought would be excessive however I used all of this time. In hindsight, I should have had an assistant as the bald cap took a long time to apply, blend and paint. I started the application at 9am w drawing the tattoos on the chest, hands and arm.
I created two bald caps just in case, which was lucky as the first one was too small. The application went well however there were a couple of hairs which somehow got stuck under the cap - I should have wrapped the hair tighter and made should all the hairs were secure. Thankfully once the cap was flocked, these were not visibile.
During my tests, I focused my attention on getting the bald cap righ - this was important as it is the key part of my make up. However this meant that due to time restraints of my tests (the bald cap application took approx 3 hours each time) I often ran out of time when it came to the eyebrow covers. I did experiment with them a couple of times but I feel I could have tested them more. I was happy with the brow cover colour match but feel they should have been sculpted flatter as you can see thr 'bulge' of the silicone particularly on the right eye.
I also feel I could have experimented with my application of the eyebrows, as I was able to see the wig lace however the camera did not pick this up so much. In the future I would maybe consider using a 15 denier lace rathert han the 30 denier which I used.
I am happy with the outcome of my make up and feel that it is a successful transformation. I tested the bald cap 4 times prior to the final application which was crucial, as each time I encountered and solved new problems. My experimentation with the bald cap allowed me to problem solve and practice not just applying bald caps but also the best way to create an effective bald cap.
The KD tattoo pen was effective in creating realistic looking tattoos. I am particularly pleased with the rose tattoo on the chest. I did this freehand, as suring my experimentation I found the stencil would take me almsot as long as freehand. It did not take me long to draw the tattoos - approximately 30 minutes for all of them.
The part of this make up I am least happy with, is the eyebrow covers. If I was to redo this project, I would experiment more with the eyebrow covers. I would not experiment less with the bald cap, but I would perhaps test these covers on other models to practice application . It bothers me that the brow covers are too thick - this is something I should have picked up on during my tests. I can also notice the edge of the brow cover - this is something which I am disappointed about. The brow is also too pale - I could have done with more time to make sure the colour was correct.
Overall, I am happy with the edge of my bald cap and the natural shape of the cap. I feel much more confident with bald caps and wrapping hair after this project.
I video'd my model to show that she could emote while the bald cap was on with little wrinklage.
