No women ever wore their hair short before the 1920’s and women’s hairdressing becomes more popular. Women were fired from there jobs for cutting their hair short. This is around the time the term flapper came into use – meaning a young bird trying to fly.
For men at this time facial hair become very popular (your country needs you) all soldiers had moustaches. This was regulation until 1916 – Neville Creedy the changed this by shaving his beard and changed the rules for the men in the military.
Military in the 21st century – stubble isn’t aloud in the Danish army.
Afghanistan – full beards are using being used as a symbol of bravery euorpean red hair. Helps break down the socials barriers between the men.
Different services have different rules – aisian and arab socially acceptable to have beards.
Groucho Marx – comedian – greasepaint was applied to create a moustache and eyebrows because he didn’t have time to apply fake hair pieces.
