SCULPTING RECAP
Hand core is made from herculite (very strong and light). Fine casting herculite can be moxed to make a strong cast. This is strong and can still b sanded down. Great for the hand as the fingers are not going to break off. Slightly longer drying time than normal plaster.
For hand sculpting, the hands is usually in a neutral position. Wayne sprays the core with water as the plaster soaks moisture, this is so the plaster does not soak all the water from the clay. The clay will stick better this way
Even when creating a troll, it is important to stick to relatable anatomy. Make sure you take into accoun the movement of the hand. Consider how the humanhand moves and if this is later to be used and worn by an actor, ensure that you follow the muscle structure of their hand to a degree so that the hand moves as naturally as possible with the actor.
Keep wetting the clay down (WED clay). As you are sculpting, keep a record of the knuckles.
Can use acrylic or pt flex for the nails.
Buy a hobby craft tool colour shaper. Kidney - latex or metal,
It doesn't matter if you put the creases in really heavy, need to understand the point of movement. Build up more than you need so that you can chip away at it.
If the hand is eventually to be worn as part of a creature suit, it will need reinforcing with netting for strength. If you see parts of the plaster coming through is a good indication that it is too thin. You should try to keep aware of the thickness of your sculpt and try to keep it balanced and even thoughout.
Various ways that this could be moulded - could be a 3part mould, the line int he picture shows how it would s be split down the middle.
